In this session, we will look at the general aspect of fire safety in the workplace, including:
- The cost to businesses and individuals.
- Causes of workplace fires.
- Duties and responsibilities of employees in relation to fire safety at work.
- Duties and responsibilities of others in the event an emergency.
- The actions to be taken in the event of a fire.
- Methods of raising the alarm.
- How to contact the emergency services.
- The role and duties of the responsible person.
- Define the term competent person.
- The types of enforcement authorities.
- The powers of enforcement authorities.
- The powers of the courts for breaches of the RRFSO 2005.
- Common human behaviours in the event of fire.
- Methods that cause heat to be transmitted during a fire (direct contact, conduction, convection, radiation, flashover and backdraught).

2. The Use of Fire Safety Equipment
In this session, we will look at using fire-fighting equipment and emergency plans, including:
- The safety precautions of using fire-fighting equipment.
- Fire-fighting equipment service checks.
- Types of fire extinguishers and their uses.
By the end of the session, you will be able to:
- State the requirements needed to correctly service and check fire-fighting equipment.
- Outline the common human behaviours in fire situations where training has not been undertaken.
- List the names of methods that cause heat to be transmitted during a fire.
- Define the role and responsibilities of a Fire Marshal.
- State the content of an emergency plan in the workplace.
- Demonstrate competent fire extinguishment.
- Undertake DRA (Dynamic Risk Assessments).

This face-to-face Fire Safety Awareness Training course is designed for individuals working in any workplace who seek a comprehensive understanding of general fire risks and preventive measures. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that staff receive appropriate fire safety training.
Certification
This face-to-face Fire Safety Awareness Training course is accredited by the Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE).
Upon successful completion of this face-to-face course, you’ll be sent a personalised digital certificate as a PDF, enabling you to download and print it.
You can access a copy, reprint or download this certificate on our LMS (Learning Management System). This is your proof that you have been trained in fire safety best practices and achieved compliance. The certificates include a verification number so anybody can authenticate the certificate’s legitimacy.
Our certifications include a renewal date but there is no legal requirement to renew your training and certificate within a specific timeframe. However, we do recommend that you arrange refresher training after 2 years as fire safety guidance does change. You should update your fire safety knowledge and skills regularly.
